“Reading is to the mind, what exercise is to the body”
– Sir Richard Steele
Now with gorgeous Baby Max, it’s hard to find time to read… well impossible! But before his arrival I crammed in a few books and one of which was so enjoyable and I had to write about it. Of course since reading it every Tom, Dick and Harry has written a review but I’m going to throw out into the internet world my opinion.
Everytime I saw the book sitting on my friends side board I wondered what it was about. The title had intrigued me, to the point that I thought I would grab a copy on Amazon and have a read.
It’s been awarded Debut Sunday Times Bestseller and Costa Novel Book Award winner 2017 and I can tell why. It’s brilliant, touching on a very tough subject, loneliness. The story is about Eleanor who leads a very simple life. Through her life she’s learnt how to survive but not how to live. This is her story of loneliness and the power of kindness.
Something that hit me, whilst reading this book, is that someone could have no human contact with anyone from the moment they finish work on a Friday evening until they go back on a Monday morning.
I won’t go in to too much detail about the story itself because you need to go on that journey for yourselves. But it’s definitely a 5 star novel!
